419 WORLDS MOST NOTORIOUS CRIMINAL CODE FROM NIGERIA
Taboo:
The numbers 419 has become a taboo since its adoption by framers of Nigerian criminal codes just as the writers of the scriptures has tabooed many years back the numbers 666.
As 666 represents devil, Satan, antichrist or any thing associated with evil so is the number 419 and globally these numbers like plagues are avoided.
419 as a number code-figure has become associated with fraud, scams, corruption, in fact anything financial crime. The alphabetical twin sister to this numbers in Nigeria is OBT which means Obtaining By Trick.
Today the international community, not Nigerians alone have come to appreciate the obnoxious nature of these numbers that my friend was astonished the day he introduced himself to one Egyptian who contacted him for a chart in the yahoo messenger chart room as nigerian but the Egyptian referred jokingly to him as also Mr. 419.
My friend pretended as though he did not understand what the Egyptian meant but swallowed bitterly on the name which has come to be the metaphor for any person of Nigeria descent. It is psychologically torturing.
Metaphor For Nigeria:
It still is very insulting and embarrassing to identify people with names that denigrate their persons. I have seen many Germans reel in pains when they are individually associated with the name Hitler or Nazi.
not only Germans, any person going through this article will quite agree with me that if we be honest enough to recall our childhood reactions when people probably bigger than us call us those names that sooth their fancy about us which in actuality distorts our personality; that it was a reaction filled with an unforgiving hatred of them.
Unfortunately the Nigerian criminal code 419 has become the 2nd name of hapless Nigerians before the international communities to an absurd degree.
Personally I would prefer to be referred to or be identified with any name that may depict evil, meanness or wickedness than one associated with stealing or larceny.
There is an Ibo saying which states;
that amongst all crimes that may be associated with a person,
stealing [and every other vice associated with it] is the worst.
[Why?] because it denigrates personality and can trigger the [retrogression or] extinction of an entire family.
Consolation:
I shall have to borrow a statement from a Hebrew texts [the scriptures] which states
that a clear mind or conscience should not be afraid of accusations and advise Nigerians, those who are not criminal minded to continue to bear the burden of this ACT occasioned by bad governance, but again to put a bold face and perhaps fight like I and Germans do, any person or nationality that calls us names.
The continued denigration of Nigeria and her cheap association with frauds, scamming and stealing is something every black man on earth should stand up against. It is like the classic association of any thing black to be evil until MLK told us that black means beautiful. I am saying this because the situation that Nigerian youths found themselves into today was artificially created by a collusion of western nations.
Until recently an European girl of about 24 years never knew there is a single airport in the whole of Africa. On reaching Murtala Mohamed Airport she asked the boy friend if they are transiting in France. Learning she was in Nigeria she confessed that she embarked on the trip to Africa just to experience the fun or adventure of landing atop an iroko tree. That’s the stuff she s been fed of since child hood about Africa.
The western world does these things deliberately not that we blacks are more fraudulent or criminal minded than they are.
No.
Africans and indeed Nigerians are crude, raw, loud, calous and perhaps unsophisticated in their style or approach to mordern crimes.
How many nigerians exactly knows how to creat or host a neat scame website filled with all hipes about becoming a millionier overnite just by buying an e book worth may be $3.00 dollars only;
How many can sit down and figure out what it amounts to; to collect few dollars from unsuspecting browsing public rather than sending useless crudly framed sparms/bulk mails with huge amounts which only a lunatic that never knew what it takes to make money can subscribe to.
how many of those dropouts knew the legal implication of promising somebody boldly with the right hand, of the soundness of a scheme and removing it in his very presence right there on his/her computer screen with the left hand with a simple legal trick called The "DISCLAIMER".
As I was editing this text, I called up from my system a check in a particular word, from a software in there, Encarta dictionary to be precise, the word I was to check is very close to the word..`Nigerian English’; I told you it’s a deliberate thing by westerners; it is a form of prejudice.
this is what I found in Encarta..
In grammar, there is a tendency toward pluralizing nouns that are singular in Standard English (as in I gave them some advices) and the pronoun themselves is often used instead of one another (as in That couple really love themselves). Distinctive vocabulary includes borrowings and loan translations from local languages, e.g., danshiki from Hausa ("a gown worn by men") and to throw water ("to offer a bribe").

Why cant this writer finish his/her work without allusion to a financial crime.
Well;
419 as a criminal code was a creation of the Nigerian state and so was the crime itself where state represents the authorities; is the central theme of a book I shall soon publish.
It traces the origin of the [financial] crimes and the creation of the code to the rouge and mediocritic regimes that has managed the affairs of the Nation state since 1967.
Below is an extract from the chat my friend had with an Egyptian and informally educating him on the code which I too now see as a universal concept for any manner of deception rather than those criminal conotations circumscribing it around Nigerians only.
but I think Nigerians may be the only people that has the poetic lisence to use it in this manner.
